The NWI Military Support Network is a collaboration of organizations centered in Lake County, including surrounding communities, with a mission to build community awareness and understanding of the issues affecting veterans, service members and military families in our local communities. Since 9-11-01, Indiana has supplied military personnel, many from our National Guard and Reserve forces, in the efforts of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. The National Guard and Reserves serve on a part-time basis in the military. However, when called to duty, these brave men and women, deploy in efforts around the world for up to 18 months at a time. Their families remain in our communities and need support.
The current situations, in Iraq and Afghanistan, also bring to light the sacrifice of those who have served in past military conflicts; this event is aimed to honor those that have served and are currently serving in the armed forces.
