The Indiana Department of Natural Resources requires all hunters born after 1986 to take this class. All hunters, regardless of age, need this class if they wish to hunt out of state or participate in state-sponsored hunts. Adults are encouraged to take the class with their young hunters to be able to reinforce what is taught. Participants will learn about firearms safety, survival, first-aid, wildlife identification and management, hunter responsibility and ethics. It is required that participants take all 10 hours of the class and pass a written exam. Those who pass the exam will receive a certified hunter’s education card that is good for life. Children 12 and younger are required to have an adult present throughout the class.
This class is an Indiana Department of Natural Resources program. For information on other Hunter’s Education dates or other DNR educational programs, contact the DNR at 219-879-5710, or visit them at www.in.gov/dnr
