Enlightening event to raise awareness, increase tolerance and identify sensitive issues
On Thursday, Dec. 2, the Campus Council on Diversity, on behalf of the Office of Diversity Programming, will host the annual “Shattering the Silences” forum where this year’s discussion topic will be focused on, “What do Americans really know about Islam?”
The educational and thought-provoking event will take place on campus at 2:30 p.m. in the Bruce W. Bergland Auditorium.
The open discussion is designed to identify topics about sensitive issues and provide a forum where the topic can be discussed in a provocative but objective and intelligent manner.
The discussion will be moderated by Alan Roger Currie, program coordinator for the Office of Diversity Program. There will be four panelists; one from the religious community, one from the business community, one IU Northwest faculty or staff member; and one IU Northwest student. The diverse group of panelists will help to lead the conversation and involve attendees in the discussion.
Northwest Indiana community members and leaders, as well as IU Northwest students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend the free event.
Light refreshments will be served following the event.
The Bruce W. Bergland Auditorium is located in the Savannah Center on the southeast corner of the main campus parking lot at 33rd Avenue and Broadway in Gary.
