Alumni associations hope to recruit at least 50 donors to address shortage

Severe weather in recent months is being blamed for some 850 cancelled blood drives across the U.S., resulting in an estimated loss of about 38,000 units that would have been collected, according to the American Red Cross. In fact, sources say that January 2011 earns the title of the lowest collections received by the American Red Cross in a decade.

The IU Northwest Alumni Association, The IU Alumni Association Lakeshore Region Chapter and the IU Northwest Student Alumni Associations are answering the plea by area blood banks to help restock their shelves with a Blood Drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 13th in the Moraine Student Center.

While appointments can be made online at www.givelife.org, the IU Northwest alumni associations will schedule appointments from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 6 in the Moraine Student Center.

The Moraine Student Center is located on the north end of the IU Northwest campus in Gary, just one half-mile south of I-80-94.
