Beverly Hills, CA – Jeffrey Kurland, an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences governor representing the Art Directors Branch, will chair the Governors Ball, the celebration that will follow the 83rd Academy Awards® on Sunday, February 27, 2011. This will be his second year as the chair of the event.
“The Governors Ball is the perfect finale to the Oscar® season. Our guests will be able to relax with one another as they toast and celebrate the achievements of the past year in film,” said Kurland.
Kurland is an Oscar-nominated costume designer (“Bullets over Broadway,” 1994), and in addition to overseeing the decor, menu and entertainment planning for the Ball, he will design attire to be worn by the evening’s performers and selected staff.
Kurland’s credits include “Hannah and Her Sisters” “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “Erin Brockovich,” “Ocean’s Eleven,” “Collateral,” “Law Abiding Citizen” and “Inception.”
The Ball’s 1,500 guests, who include Academy Award® winners and nominees, show presenters and other telecast participants, will celebrate in the Grand Ballroom on the top level of the Hollywood & Highland Center® immediately following the telecast.
Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2010 will be presented on Sunday, February 27, 2011, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and televised live by the ABC Television Network beginning at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.
