The new movie releases for December 22nd and 25th, 2010 are two remakes and a sequel.

Opening on Wednesday is the third movie in the popular series about the Focker family, Little Fockers.  With a truly all-star cast, this film is set to dominate the Top 10 List this weekend.  DeNiro, Hoffman, Streisand, Danner, Stiller, Wilson, Alba, Keitel, etc.  This movies cast reads like a who’s who list for Hollywood.  This also means that a lot of people need to see this movie just to make back the estimated production budget of $100M.  The first two films did $445 domestically so the popularity is there and a big holiday weekend makes a $60M opening a distinct possibility.  Check back on Sunday to see if I was even close.

The other early opener is the highly anticipated remake of the John Wayne western True Grit.  Jeff Bridges reprises the role of Rooster Cogburn and based on the trailers, it looks to be as exciting as the original.  If people want action this weekend, this movie could find itself at the top of the Top 10 List.

This years Christmas Day opener is the 3D adventure Gulliver’s Travels.  By opening on Saturday instead of Friday, this movie is at a disadvantage for drawing the audience needed for a big enough weekend to even make the Top 10 List but if anyone can pull it off it is Jack Black.  Generally, the Christmas weekend is a big one with the teens and tweens who just want to get out of the house and luckily for Mr. Black, that is the bulk of his core audience.  I put this one in at about number four but the Lilliputians could capture a big enough audience to take the number three spot.  Check back Sunday.

I would like to wish all of you a Very Merry Christmas and thank you all for staying tuned and staying informed with the Media Maniac!
