November 15, 2010 – The Spell Bowl teams from New Prairie High School and New Prairie Middle School both competed at the State Competition held at Purdue University on Saturday, November 13th. This is the fifth year out of six that the NPHS team has qualified for state, having been state champions twice during that time.

The spellers did very well, placing second in Class 2. Those spellers having perfect scores were Heaven Shull, Bianca Salgado, and Chris Shumate. Spellers with near-perfect scores were Lisa Fischer, Brandee Pietrzak, Cristal Salgado, and Briana Davis. The NPHS team is coached by Jim Groendyke.

The NPMS Spell Bowl team also did well in their second appearance in two years, placing third in Class 2 and sixth overall in the State. Spellers having perfect scores included Sarah Koontz, Christina Dukehart, and Shaylee Smith. Spellers with near-perfect scores were Alex Suppinger and Dakota Williamson. The NPMS team is coached by Jenn Smith.
