Campus and community members encouraged to attend the 10th annual Alma Borinquena celebration

WHAT:

The Indiana University Northwest Latino Studies Program presents Alma Borinquena, the 10th annual night of Puerto Rican history and culture. The festive event will be celebrated on campus Friday, Nov. 19 in the Bruce W. Bergland Auditorium. The free event opens with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. and the program begins at 6:30 p.m.

Performances of folkloric dance — bomba, plena, and the seis — will be the highlight of the evening, as well as other dominant music forms from Puerto Rico.

Entitled “Origins and History of Puerto Rican Cultural Groups,” the presentation will integrate the cultural traditions of all of Puerto Rico’s ethnic ancestors. Included are special presentations by Grupo Folklorico Amapola, Los Romanticos, and La Orquesta de Cuatro Fenix.

Friday, Nov. 19; social hour at 5:30 p.m. with program beginning at 6:30 p.m.
