GARY, IN. 2-10-2011 – The Gary SouthShore RailCats and Manager Greg Tagert will be holding an open tryout on Saturday, March 19 at the home of the reigning NAIA Baseball National Champions, Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn.
The two-time Northern League Champion RailCats are always on the lookout for players wherever they can be found and after some success in years past, will visit the state of Tennessee again in search of talent that may have been missed or overlooked by other scouts and managers in the professional ranks. Free agents with professional experience are encouraged to attend, along with any player age 18 and up who is not under contract for 2011. Players should come dressed in proper baseball attire and provide their own gear including catcher’s equipment.
The tryout will be held on Saturday, March 19 with Sunday, March 20 being a backup in case of rain and two-time NAIA Baseball National Champion Cumberland University will host the event. Position players are expected to report at 9:30 a.m. and pitchers are expected at 11:30 a.m. Interested players are strongly encouraged to pre-register. 2010 NAIA National Coach of the Year Woody Hunt enters his 30th season as the Cumberland Head Baseball Coach and his Bulldogs squads have enjoyed great success over the years, earning eleven appearances in the NAIA World Series dating back to 1988, finished as the national runners-up in 1995 and 2006 and captured the NAIA Baseball National Championship in 2004 and 2010. The Bulldogs boast 56 NAIA All-Americans and 71 players who have signed professional contracts.
