GARY, IN. 6-18-2010 – The Gary SouthShore RailCats and Rockford RiverHawks waited out a two hour and nine minute rain delay to start the night Friday at U. S. Steel Yard, only to see their game suspended in the top of the fourth inning by a second rainstorm with the RiverHawks leading 2-1.
The RailCats and RiverHawks will pick up the game at the start of the fourth inning Saturday night at 6 p.m. and complete nine regulation innings. That game will be followed by a second seven inning contest. Fans holding tickets for Friday night’s game can redeem those seats for seats at any 2010 RailCats regular season contest this summer, including Saturday night.
Friday, the RailCats got on the scoreboard first when Adam Klein walked to lead off the game and went to third on a Louis Ott single. Klein later scored on double play groundout. Rockford grabbed its two runs in the top of the third on a pair of infield singles, a wild pitch, groundout and two-out Rich Austin RBI hit.
Brandon Magee started the game for the RailCats and saw his scoreless inning streak snapped at 17.1 innings in the two-run third. Reliever Brandon Todd got the start for Rockford and pitched the first three frames, his longest outing of the year.
Saturday night is Helmet Giveaway Night at U. S. Steel Yard, with the first 1,000 kids (age 12 and under) picking up a free replica RailCats batting helmet, courtesy NIEMI Associates.
