Program to help employees and companies increase HR knowledge critical to overall business success

Indiana University Northwest, in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), will offer a two-day training course covering a breadth of HR issues suited to the needs of any small or large business, junior or experienced HR practitioner, and even job seekers considering HR as a career option.

The SHRM Essentials of HR Management course will take place on the IU Northwest campus on two consecutive Saturdays, April 23 and April 30, from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

In less than 20 hours of training, attendees will gain practical skills to handle HR challenges that are relevant to their career and could help their employer to avoid potentially costly lawsuits. The course covers six key HR management practices in a blended learning experience that combines print and online tools with the benefits of an instructor-led class. Topics addressed during the course, include:

  • Human Resource Management;
  • Employment Law;
  • Recruitment and Selection;
  • Compensation and Benefits;
  • Employee Development; and
  • Performance Management.

The course will also provide attendees with a basis of attaining knowledge and practical HR skills to effectively approach challenging HR issues, while also gaining expertise in areas of HR that are broader than the normal scope of the profession.

Attendees will receive a Participant’s Activities Book and a Participant’s Reference Book as well as will be provided with a one-year access to online tools for continuing learning.

Individuals attending the two-day course will earn up to 1.5 CEUs or 15 PHR/SPHR/GPHR recertification hours and a certificate upon completion.

The cost of the course is $450 for Northwest Indiana SHRM Chapter members and $500 for non-Northwest Indiana SHRM Chapter members, which includes the $100 SHRM membership fee.
